The four shorter routes will help Vietnam Airlines save more than 5,200 hours of flying time and more than US$30 million a year, according to a CAAV official.
The four new routes include Meova in the northern province of Ha Giang to Hanoi, Phu Bai in the central town of Hue to Pleiku in the Central Highlands, Ho Chi Minh City to Baven in the Mekong Delta province of Kien Giang, and the Mekong Delta city of Can Tho to Buon Ma Thuot in the Central Highlands, the Civil Aviation Administration of Vietnam (CAAV) said on Wednesday.
The Meova-Noi Bai route will reduce the distance between Hanoi and Kunming in China by 128km, while the Can Tho-Buon Ma Thuot route will shorten the Hanoi-Can Tho service by 24km.
CAAV also announced it will adjust six domestic routes to serve international flights from July 2.
