HCMC flower festival the largest ever

The city’s Department of Transport said the event this year was the largest in the festival’s 29-year history.

In addition to unique flowers, plants and aquatic creatures from Vietnam, the festival also features Japanese rock gardens and orchids from Taiwan.

The festival, held at District 1’s Tao Dan Park, will be open to visitors until February 21.

In other holiday news, the Yasaka Saigon Nhatrang Hotel in the central province of Khanh Hoa said it planned to make a 35 meter long banh tet (a traditional sticky rice cake cylinder) next Monday and 999 smaller cakes in celebration of Hanoi’s 1,000th anniversary.

The biggest cake would be a mix of flavors from various regions of Vietnam, said hotel managers, adding that the cakes would be cut and offered to visitors this Tuesday afternoon.
